Plastic Sheet Extrusion Operator

Our client based in the Northern KZN Area is looking to fill an extrusion operator position.

Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Plastic Extrusion Operator to join our team. The Plastic Extrusion Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining plastic extrusion machinery to produce plastic products according to specifications. They must have a strong understanding of extrusion processes, machine operation, and quality control standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Machine Setup: Set up plastic extrusion machines and auxiliary equipment, including dies, screws, heaters, and cooling systems, according to product specifications and production requirements.

Material Preparation: Prepare raw materials for the extrusion process, including resin pellets, additives, and colorants, and ensure that materials are properly mixed and fed into the extruder hopper.

Extrusion Operation: Operate plastic extrusion machinery to produce plastic products, monitoring machine settings, temperatures, and pressures to ensure proper operation and product quality.

Quality Control: Conduct quality inspections of extruded products, checking for defects, inconsistencies, or imperfections in size, shape, and appearance. Make adjustments to machine settings as needed to maintain quality standards.

Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot problems or issues with the extrusion process, such as equipment malfunctions, material inconsistencies, or product defects, and take corrective actions to resolve them.

Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of extrusion equipment, including lubrication, calibration, and replacement of worn-out parts, to ensure optimal performance and longevity of machinery.

Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, and hazards during extrusion operations. Follow safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production activities, including machine settings, material usage, production rates, and quality inspections. Complete production reports and log sheets as required.

Qualifications:

Proven experience as a plastic extrusion operator, with at least 5 years of experience in extrusion manufacturing.
Familiarity with plastic materials, processing techniques, and extrusion machinery, such as single-screw and twin-screw extruders.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and production schedules.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve equipment problems.
Attention to detail and quality-conscious mindset, with a focus on producing high-quality products.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks that may involve lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Salary will be Negotiable depending on experience.
