Job Description
The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with the health and safety legislation within the company. The ideal candidate will also be detail-oriented and ready to act in emergencies.
The goal is to establish a safe workplace according to legal standards and foster a culture of attention to health and safety.
Position location: Site Office, Killarney Gardens, Cape Town
Requirements:
• Strong computer skills: MS word, Xcel & Outlook
• 5 years on site experience as a safety officer
• Must be willing to work under pressure
• Must be a team player with respect for their fellow employees.
• Must pass an annual medical and drug test
• Must pass police clearance and therefore have no criminal record of any sort
• Must be able to work on his/her own with little supervision
• Must be willing to work away from home for extended periods and outside of SA if so required
• Valid driver’s license
• Knowledge of petrochemical refineries and the cement industry will count in your favour.
• Sound knowledge of HSE legislation and procedures
• Ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety legislation
• Experience in compiling safety documents.
• Must be willing to work on a heavy industrial site
• Proficient in MS Office; Excel and Outlook
• Have the following training and certification
o Working at Heights – SAQA Unit Standards
o Fall Protection Planner – SAQA Unit Standards
o Basic Fall Arrest Technician – SAQA Unit Standards
o Risk Assessor (HIRA & RAMS)
o Incident/Accident Investigation – SAQA Unit Standards
o Legal Liability
o OHS Representative
o SHEQ Management
o Introduction to SAMTRAC
o Health and Safety Representative
o SACPCMP – Registered or proof of registration
o Proven experience as a safety officer
• Experience in the heavy industry will count in your Favor
Responsibilities:
• Support the development of OHS policies and programs
• Developing, implementing, and improving the health and safety programmes and procedures in the workplace
• Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics
• Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures
• Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation
• Site inspections to identify issues or non-conformity
• Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy
• Record and investigate incidents
• Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management
• Knowledge of HSE legislation and procedures
• Compiling of safety files for various sites
• Conducting of toolbox talks
• Insure we pass all safety audits
