Job Description

Education, Qualifications and Experience:
- A relevant nursing qualification (Diploma in Nursing / B Cur Degree / equivalent NQF 7 qualifications
- Minimum of one-year extensive experience in private health care will be advantageous.
- Compliance with the SANC code for a Registered Nurse and all appropriate health care legislation.
- Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.
- Ability to implement and maintain standards of health Sound knowledge of general nursing theory and practice
- Knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices
- Appropriately balancing these various pressures to maintain stable performance.
- Must have the emotional intelligence to understand people and recognise their care needs.
- Must have a high attention to detail and enjoy being organized.
- Able to collaborative relationships to help accomplish work goal.

Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment and Monitoring:
- By assisting with activities of daily living, administering medications, and providing health education, Registered Nurses contribute to the management of acute and chronic health conditions, thereby improving patient outcomes and quality of life.
- Promotion of patient overall health and wellbeing by working effectively and co-operatively with others to establish and maintain good working relationships that are mutually beneficial, being effective in communication with patients’ regarding their care, always maintains patient confidentiality.
Action area:
- Assessment of patient’s basic needs for: Hygiene and physical comfort. Promotion of exercise, rest and sleep. Need for early ambulation. Feeding and elimination.
- Planning: Carrying out of the nursing care plan as planned.
- Implementation: Administering oral, intra-muscular and intravenous medications Attend to wound care. Manage intravenous lines . Preparation and receiving patients from theatre, immediate post-operative care. Admission and discharge of patients. Always ensure patient comfort. Assisting with baby bath. Assist with diagnostic procedures. Assist with doctors rounds.
Enhanced patient satisfaction

- Practice the principles of infection prevention and all standard precautions
- Execute all procedures according to hospital standards
Effective Care Coordination and Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with unit manager, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to each patient's needs and goals.
- By participating in interdisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and care coordination efforts, Registered Nurses facilitate seamless communication, continuity of care, and efficient resource utilization, resulting in improved patient outcomes and healthcare delivery efficiency.
Patient Safety and Risk Reduction:
- Through their attention to detail, adherence to established protocols, and vigilant monitoring of patient conditions, Registered Nurses help ensure a safe and secure healthcare environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- By promptly identifying and reporting changes in patient status, medication errors, or safety hazards, Registered Nurses contribute to the prevention of adverse events, medical errors, and healthcare-associated infections, thereby enhancing patient safety and minimizing risk.
- Equipment and supplies: Records any surgical stock items used on billing sheets of patients. Prevents waste and assists in preventing theft. Knows the correct use of equipment. Cares for and cleans equipment according to prescribed procedures. Reports equipment needing repair or replacement to Unit Manager
- Emergency / Disaster Plan: Attend training and practice to keep up to date with the hospital evacuation and disaster plan.
- Medical – legal and safety aspects: Always practices within own scope, skills and level of training for Registered Nurses. Prevents risks as far as possible. Maintains a safe working environment in accordance with the Occupational and Safety Act
- Reports unsafe conditions

Care Planning and Implementation:
- Ensure that key areas of organisation and planning are kept up to date with regards to: Ensure all stock is well controlled and managed, file compilation, therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards. Medical waste management principles and all other waste management principles are maintained. Ensure that all documentation is maintained timeously and accurately, reflecting patient care. Always maintain professional conduct and standards in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Report equipment needing repair or replacement to Unit Manager.
- Action area: Execution of the nursing care plan. General Patient Care. Assess admissions of patients performed by enrolled and Auxiliary nurses. Intake and output. Promotion and maintenance of patient’s nutritional status and elimination. Check intravenous infusions. Record results accurately (keep intake and output charts up to date). Prepare patient for diagnostic and nursing procedures. Administer injections and oral medication. Promotes healing of wounds by wound care and prevention of infection or other complications.

- Registered nurses play a critical role in maintaining patient satisfaction and experience by delivering competent, compassionate, and patient-centered care during staffing transitions or challenging circumstances.
- They build rapport with patients, establish trust, and address patient needs with empathy and sensitivity, leaving a positive impression on patients and families.
- Work with and supervise all nursing assistants, Basic Ambulance Assistants and health care workers to ensure best practice nursing standards are followed. Refer all complaints from patients and doctors to Unit Manager.
