Job Description

High end boutique Hotel in Devon Valley, Stellenbosch is looking for a Junior Chef, who will be responsible for preparing breakfast and lunch in the hotel as well as weddings at our venue in accordance to set standards and guidelines.

The Hotel also caters for functions & weddings onsite as well as hosting pop up's and special occasion meals at the venue.

Reporting To: Head Chef

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Ensure all the mise-en-place is prepared and kept fresh.

Ensure that the head chef has all the required resources and supplies (e.g., knives, boards, spices, vegetables etc.) at the cooking stations.

Ensure all food is prepared as per the approved menu and per set standards.

To ensure that all the plates reach the client with correct garnish, portion size, correct temperature, approved presentation and quality.

Ensure all food preparation stations are kept clean.

Produce high quality food at all times as per the set standards while being mindful of the clients’ requirements.

Maintain high standard of culinary product and service all the time.

Assist the Head Chef in management in all kitchen activities.

Report any arising problems or complaints to the Head Chef.

Monitor customer satisfaction at all times.

Must possess and eye for attention to detail to ensure that the plates are perfect when they leave the kitchen.

Maintain good working relationships; understand and follow written and oral instructions;

Basic knowledge of best cooking practices

Requirements:

2-3 years previous experience as a chef in the catering industry/or fast paced restaurant

Passion for contemporary & classical food

Strong organizational ability

Ability to work independently and take initiative.

Good interpersonal skills

Valid driver’s license and reliable transport

Willingness and ability to accept shift work and flexi hours.
