Medical Technologist (Clin Path) Urgent

PURPOSE
Medical Technologists provides information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments and analysis.

REQUIREMENTS
o Bachelor`s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science or relevant field.
o Current HPCSA Certificate to work as a Medical Technologist.
o A minimum of 1-2 years ‘experience as a Medical Technologist
o Previous experience working with various medical equipment and tools
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
o Be willing to work shifts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To process and handle blood and / or other biological specimens according to established procedures.
2. Establish whether specimens are of appropriate quality / quantity and if they are appropriately labelled.
3. Processing and handling of all associated specimens according to protocol and laboratory manuals.
4. Maintain an audit trail tracking the specimen`s progress through the laboratory.
5. Performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests in the areas of hematology, Microbiology, Immunology and Clinical chemistry as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and document results.
6. Retain and refrigerate specimens for possible retesting.
7. Performs quality control at all times ensuring validity and accuracy of test kits.
8. Performs calibration and troubleshooting on testing systems and instruments to ensure adherence to established standards of accuracy.
9. Maintain laboratory inventory levels and if necessary, place orders for new supplies.
10. Collaborate with pathologist and other medical specialists to determine correct diagnosis if any abnormalities are found.
11. Maintain a safe and clean working environment by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
12. Practices safety, environmental, and /or infection control methods.
13. Print and send results to referring Dr /Physician or researcher
14. Maintain temperature monitoring logs for fridge, freezer, room temperature and follow up with corrective actions for any deviations.
15. Perform daily, weekly, bi-annually and annual preventative maintenance on all laboratory equipment including pipettes and microscopes.
16. Ensure that the laboratory equipment is calibrated on a regular basis as per requirements.
17. Maintain the calibration of all laboratory equipment and the calibration file.
18. Perform equipment validation on newly sourced testing equipment.
19. Maintain all other Quality Management laboratory logs and laboratory documents / files as per GCLP.
20. Maintain Internal Quality Control (IQC) and External Quality Control (EQC) programs and perform investigations as required.
21. Create, review and update laboratory SOP`s.
