Job Description
Our client, a Blue chip Manufacturing company based in Vanderbijlpark, (Vaal Triangle) is looking for an experienced Technical Buyer with the following:
Requirements:
• Grade 12 or equivalent
• 5 years extremely good Technical Buying experience in a Manufacturing or Engineering Industry
• Incredibly strong technically. Must know machines inside and out.
• Person will be physically present when things are taken apart and put back together.
• Strong personality (very important)
• High integrity (very important)
• Good knowledge of supplier and where to buy what.
• Will sometimes have to be on site on weekends if something is fixed
• Will report to finance
• Dealing with a lot of pressure. Not stress
Responsibility:
• Obtain three or more quotes for orders
• Place order using SAP.
• Expedite the outstanding orders.
• Import raw materials according to the schedule provided by Production department.
• Inventory stock control.
• Stock take end of each month.
• Source out companies.
• Complete credit applications.
• Arrange transport for subcontracting companies and courier for collection when needed.
• Manage minimum stock level on certain stock.
• Drive projects from initial purchase till delivery and implementation of product in plant.
• Ensure timeous delivery at all times
• Ensure cost savings where possible not compromising quality and performance.
• Assist with general preventive maintenance plan.
• Ensure involvement in shutdown plans from start till end, correct parts must be on time, right price right quality that measures to performance.
• Any other duty that is required at the time from the employer
• Raw material purchases: -
o Buy raw materials in line with the MSDS spec.
o Suppliers from the approved suppliers list must be used.
o Stock must be inspected by the Store senior/ assistant/QA on arrival.
o Stock must be bought on a JIT system.
o Liaise with production daily to determine the need for Material at least one to two weeks in advance.
o Orders must be placed in advance with vendors to ensure on-time delivery.
o Minimum stock levels must be maintained where possible to prevent production stoppages.
Technical buying requirements/breakdowns:
o Must be present when the item is stripped. Preferably on site.
o Take vendors for a plant visit to inspect units/ breakdown units to enable all to quote on the job.
o Send drawings or measurements to the vendor where needed to get a relevant quote.
o Inspect the unit/job on return to ensure it meets the standards to operate in the plant.
o Drawings must be obtained in each repair to ease repairs in the future.
o A parts register must be kept of drawings for all to reference when needed.
o Present when the relevant part is removed and replaced by new part.
o Ensure part is replaced correctly and up to industry standards.
o Old parts must be retained and disposed of. Not returned to supplier.
• Drawings must be obtained for each machine in the plant in the smallest detail to ensure easy repairs and quotes for the future.
• Maintenance register of parts must be kept up to date
o Each part must be listed and reviewed regularly to ensure replacements before the production stops. Replacement or repair must be done in time.
• Various vendors must be on record for parts. Availability and waiting periods must be reduced to a minimum.
