Job Description
The Network Productions is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Freelance Accountant / Bookkeeper to support our Production team across several key operational and project-based functions. This role is ideal for someone with a strong accounting foundation who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is familiar with the film industry.
You’ll be instrumental in supporting daily accounting operations, managing audit and quarter-close deliverables, and contributing to high-priority initiatives. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with excellent organizational skills, a strong attention to detail, a proactive mindset, and a willingness to jump in wherever needed. This role is based at our Woodstock, Cape Town Office with a minimum of 2 days a week in office.
Responsibilities:
• Accounting & Reporting Support
o Assist in reviewing, tracking, and reconciling royalty reports from international partners
o Perform key tasks related to the quarter close, including but not limited to, bank and inventory reconciliations
o Help roll forward the financial statements and assist in audit-related tasks
o Support the tax function, including updating the transfer pricing calculation worksheets (quarterly), supporting sales tax and VAT preparation and filings, and reconciling sales tax accounts monthly
• Accounts Receivable / Payable
o Conduct AR follow-ups and track outstanding receivables
o Support PO/invoice matching, particularly for brand and merchandise-related transactions
o Assist with the development of an AP process manual
o Provide admin support for off-boarding legacy systems (e.g., Avid)
• Project Management & Admin
o Manage calendars and assist in scheduling across the team as it relates to core projects and initiatives
o Participate in and help drive core finance initiatives and cleanup projects (e.g., tax filing checklist)
o Scan and organize mail and key finance documents
o Support implementation-related admin tasks across systems and workflows
o Take on ad-hoc projects as they arise across the department
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 2+ years of relevant accounting experience (internship or full-time)
• Familiarity with sales tax and VAT processes preferred
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Experience with project management tools (e.g., Asana, Linear) a plus
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
