Job Description
ADVERTISEMENT FOR CARPENTER AND BRICKLAYER JOB
TLNS Electrical and Railway Signalling (Pty) Ltd is seeking for qualified Carpenter and Bricklayer with passion and willing to grow within an organization. Applicants must reside around Germiston, East Rand Region or willing to relocate and ready for travelling. Experience Required
• At least 3-5 years’ experience in the construction of buildings after receiving Trade Test Certificate.

Qualification requirements

• Must Carpenter and Bricklayer Trade Test Certificate that has been issued by Department of Higher Education and Training or the Department of Labor.

Duties and responsibilities
Carpenter:
• Reading and interpreting blueprints and building plans to meet client requirements.
• Measuring, cutting, and shaping wood, metal, and other materials using hand and power tools.
• Constructing, installing, and repairing frameworks such as walls, floors, and doorframes.
• Building formwork and shuttering for concrete structures like columns, slabs, and beams.
• Installing doors, windows, roofing trusses, and ceiling structures.
• Erecting scaffolding and ladders for elevated work.
• Assembling and disassembling temporary structures such as site sheds and access platforms.
• Ensuring joints and structures are secure and aligned.
• Maintaining tools and equipment in good condition.
• Adhering to safety standards and building regulations on-site
Bricklayer:
• Reading and understanding building plans and drawings.
• Mixing mortar or cement to the right consistency for bricklaying.
• Laying bricks, blocks, and other masonry materials in straight rows, shapes, or patterns.
• Measuring and aligning structures using levels, plumb lines, and trowels.
• Repairing and maintaining brick structures such as walls, fireplaces, and facades.
• Cutting bricks to size using hammers, chisels, or power tools.
• Constructing arches, chimneys, and other decorative brickwork.
• Applying damp-proofing and insulation materials when required.
• Cleaning and pointing brickwork (finishing joints with mortar).
• Following site safety rules and wearing appropriate PPE.
