About the Role

As our Health and Safety Officer Durban (Construction), you will take charge of implementing, monitoring, and enforcing occupational health and safety procedures across active construction sites. Your role will involve conducting audits, leading toolbox talks, managing safety files, and ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), the Construction Regulations, and SACPCMP requirements.

You will work closely with site managers, contractors, subcontractors, and employees to build a safety-first culture while preventing risks and ensuring adherence to legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Enforce health and safety policies across construction sites in Durban and KwaZulu-Natal.

Conduct daily site inspections, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.

Manage and maintain construction safety files and ensure compliance with SACPCMP and OHSA requirements.

Investigate site incidents, accidents, and near misses, preparing reports and corrective action plans.

Ensure compliance with the Construction Regulations and client HSE requirements.

Deliver health and safety training and awareness sessions to site staff and contractors.

Work with project managers and engineers to integrate safety into all phases of construction projects.

Liaise with Department of Labour inspectors and ensure full compliance during site visits.

Drive a culture of zero harm through proactive engagement and monitoring.
Minimum Requirements

To qualify as a Health and Safety Officer Durban – Construction Industry, candidates must have:

SACPCMP registration as a Health and Safety Officer (essential).

Relevant tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety.

SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent safety certifications highly advantageous.

Minimum of 3 years’ proven experience in health and safety within the construction sector.

Strong working knowledge of OHSA, Construction Regulations, and SACPCMP guidelines.

Demonstrated experience in managing safety files, conducting risk assessments, and liaising with external auditors.

Excellent communication and leadership skills to influence site staff and subcontractors.

Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
