Job Description

Manage all daily production planning and production processes / procedures to ensure high quality products manufactured, production efficiency maintained, and delivery timelines achieved at all.
Manage effective daily and periodic cleaning of all production areas. Manage adherence to food safety and quality management systems requirements and procedures in the production environment.

Requirements And Skills:

• Related Higher Education Diploma or Degree
• 3 to 5+ years’ proven experience in a production management role in a food production environment
• A Forklift License would be an added advantage
• Certified Health and Safety Representative
• Above excellent planning skills

Duties:

Food safety and quality management:

• Personal hygiene and code of conduct standards adhered to and enforced in production environment i.e., protective clothing, hand
washing, eating/smoking, jewellery, and cell phones.
• Food safety and quality program requirements compliance adhered to and enforced in production environment i.e., allergen program,
pest control program, plaster & glove control, waste handling, cleaning practices, good manufacturing and product handling
practices, product identification and labelling.
• Following of work instructions and standard operation procedures enforced to ensure product quality and safety i.e., weighing,
sieving, blending, packing, metal detection etc.
• Responsibility for ensuring daily and periodic cleaning and sanitation of production environments is adequate and completed as per
cleaning schedule with relevant records completed and verified.
• Assist in compiling production and operation specific procedures, and work instructions.
• Identifying new requirements or opportunities for improvement of the food safety and quality of production and notify food safety
team.
• Assist the team leader to develop, verify, review and update the hazard analysis and HACCP plan.
• Attend and participate in food safety & quality meetings.
• Ensure that all production and operational food safety practices, procedures and rules are enforced and adhered to by production
staff.
• Ensure that product conforms to requirements and that all associated records are completed correctly and verified Identification and
marking of non-conforming stock ensured.
• Training production staff according to applicable work instructions
• Investigation of and implementation of corrective actions for non-conformances relating to production department and report any
non-conformances.
• Act as internal auditor for the scheduled internal audit and site inspection program
• Lead production area reviews during external audits.

Production:

• Daily opening and start-up of the production facility and machinery according to standard procedures to ensure plant available at
production start-up time.
• Effectively manage team and communicate to staff daily production schedule and deadlines.
• Together with production planner manage daily production schedule to ensure daily production output achieved.
• Work allocated to production workers to ensure maximum productivity.
• Changes to the production plan managed and communicated.
• Ensuring all production procedures are being followed, with special attention to compliance to CCP’s and OPRP’s to ensure safe and
conforming finished products.
• Product produced to the right specification and quantities according to schedule.
• Ensure daily cleaning scheduled and completed as per master cleaning schedule and records completed Assist with hoist driving
when necessary.
• Manage printing of label to ensure integrity of information (dates, batch codes, names etc).
• Maintenance of PRP and hygiene requirements and procedures during daily operation and relevant records completed.
• Ensure plant required maintenance is reported immediately to maintenance department and that line and product clearance
procedure adhered to post maintenance.
• Develop, improve and document all production SOP’s and keep them updated.
• Consumables available for production.
• Production costs and waste managed.

Health and Safety:

• Managing and coordinating the Occupational Health & Safety program with assistance from trained health & safety representatives.
• Appropriate policies, procedures and work instructions written and implemented in accordance with OHSA and ISO18001/45001.
• Manage and lead the workings of the Health & Safety committee.
• Ensure health and safety internal audits conducted and corrective actions implemented.
• Incidences and hazards immediately followed-up, documented and reported to the HR Manager.
• Training provided to health & Safety committee and staff to ensure the health & safety policies and requirements are understood.
• Ensure staff know the identity of the health and safety reps and first aiders and that emergency contact details are displayed
prominently as required.
• Ensure the use of correct and sufficient PPE in the work environment and enforce compliance.
• Control the issuing of dust masks, gloves, plasters and maintain records.
• Ensure all new employees complete health & safety induction training before starting work in safety conscious environment.

People Management:

• Production staff shift structure planned, implemented and monitored.
• Manage the time clocking system for production, warehouse and sanitation staff members.
• Team members receive regular communication about business strategy and plans.
• Participation is encouraged and contributions are recognised, and improvement suggestions encouraged.
• Grievances and complaints are resolved according to the grievance code.
• Disciplinary offences are managed according to disciplinary code and legal requirements.
• Resources required by employees supplied as feasible.
• Job descriptions kept relevant and up to date and communicated to all production team members.
• Goals and targets are set and monitored; regular individual review meetings are held quarterly.
• Health & Safety responsibilities assigned and communicated to all food safety team members.
• Performance rewarded according to company guidelines.
• Development opportunities identified and development plans implemented.
• Internal training provided as required for all production staff members on production procedures and requirements.
• External training related to skills development arranged as appropriate.
• Skilled employees recruited as required.
• Responsibilities and authorities assigned and accepted for each member.
• Attendance of monthly/quarterly health & safety meetings enforced.
• Participation in health & safety meetings and report back enforced.

Communication:

• Daily production and monthly reports completed and submitted timeously.
• Meet daily deadlines to ensure delivery on customer requirements.
• Support other business functions as required to fulfil customer orders on time.
• Report anything to your manager that interferes with completing duties on time.

Finance:

• Cost of production and wastage monitored and managed within agreed parameters, variance reports provided.

Business Efficiency and Continuity:

• Daily production deadlines managed and adhered to, to ensure effective downstream delivery on customer requirements.
• Support other business functions as required to fulfil customer orders on time.
• Procedures reflect current processes and are up to date.
• Procedures up to date and accessible to all staff
• Drawing up, reviewing and maintaining of SOP’s

Confidentiality:

• Critical business info kept electronically.
• Information stored in correct formats, locations and access controlled as required.
• Ensure that all relevant documentation is controlled, records stored correctly and available on requirement.
