Job Description

My client based just outside of Durban are inviting suitably qualified candidates for the position of Maintenance Engineer - Electrical and Instrumentation(E&I) specialisation. The position reports to the Maintenance Manager.

Key Performance Areas:
• Assist Foreman to ensure that all plant and equipment is cost effectively maintained and that a high standard of engineering is implemented in accordance with SHERQ policies and Acts.
• Manages minor plant modifications and upgrades, ensuring work carried out meets the designed specifications.
• Develop annual maintenance operating budgets and long-term capital replacement plans and control expenditure within budget parameters for the respective plant areas, whilst providing a cost effective and efficient engineering service.
• Assist in selecting and recruiting personnel.
• Develop work objectives, reviews performance and provides training and development to the System Technicians, ensuring that the System Technicians realise their full potential.
• Through effective leadership, encourage teamwork participation in regular production improvement meetings and ensures that performance objectives and achievements are communicated and acted upon.
• Provide active support in planning and executing plant shutdowns.
• Provide active support to technical department by attending and /or giving input into design reviews, hazard and operability studies and technical forums.
• Keep abreast of developments in the field of equipment and industrial maintenance
technology with a view to providing on-going improvement to maintenance practices and
equipment installed on site.
• Perform instrument / electrical audits from time to time to ensure that high engineering, plant and safety standards are maintained.
• Participate in setting off objectives to meet the company strategies.
• Ensure all DCS systems and software backups are maintained.
• Ensure all instrument loops are continuously updated and maintained on the Auto plant and PI software packages.
• Continuously improve process control to obtain maximum efficiency and quality output of the plant.
• Monitor the power supplied, power factor and look for improvement on power usage.
• Ensure energy is generated and reticulated safely on-site.
• Ensure electrical standards are implemented and the Site is legally compliant.
• Collaborate with Optimisation Engineers to keep up to date with latest technologies, including identifying and evaluating value add opportunities in terms of co-generation / electrical efficiency improvements.
• Provide electrical engineering support to the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Teams regarding repairs to critical equipment.
Address production losses caused by inefficient engineering systems by critically analysing and maximising the systems performance.
• Promote and adhere to company procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).
• Responsible for statutory requirements expectations and acting as may be delegated by the Maintenance Manager.

Minimum Requirements:
• Degree or equivalent in Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering.
• Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) would be an added advantage.
• 8+ years experience in a manufacturing environment – electrical generating experience would be an advantage.
• Continuous improvement knowledge and experience.
• Familiarity with company systems would be an advantage.
