Job Description
To visit all new residents in their cottages, and introduce cottage care, and so form an early relationship between Cottage residents and Care Centre – and also gain understanding of their wellbeing both physical and mental, which serves as a baseline in the future.
To ensure that the Personal Particulars form is correctly completed by new residents and to check this periodically to ensure information is kept up to date.
To ensure that spare keys to Residents’ cottages are handed in to the Care Centre – these keys should be labelled with the current occupier’s name, address, unit number and phone number.
To carry out courtesy visits, respond to emergency calls and arrange visits for minor procedures or consultations.
Ensure Cottage residents know how to summon help in an emergency situation, and responds to any such calls when on duty.
To hold a weekly Clinic at the Care Centre, offering blood glucose testing, injections and dressings to wounds.
Dispenses medicine for Cottage residents who require this service, into weekly cassettes, and liaise with doctors regarding repeat scripts, as well as ordering medication timeously.
Offers Care options to Cottage residents who are too frail to cope with activities of daily living without assistance ie: Care assistance at home or admission to the Care Centre.
Encourages Cottage resident to spend time in the Care Centre for short term respite during period of illness or post operatively – and then ensures they can cope with activities of daily living when discharged, by informing about options for assistance.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Matric plus General Nursing Diploma
Current Registration with SA Nursing Council
Experience and skills
Experience in Geriatric Nursing

Computer literate – able to work on spread sheets for charging purposes
