Job Description

Job Title: Enrolled Nurse

Report To: Professional Nurse/Care Manager

Job Purpose: To deliver skilled nursing care to the residents in the Care Centre to ensure the best possible quality of life for the residents.

Minimum Entry Requirements:
• Diploma in Nursing
• 2 years working experience in a similar role.
• Current registration with SANC

Competencies required:
• Proficiency in verbal and written communication
• Good attention to detail and accuracy
• Demonstrate good conflict resolution skills
• Non-judgemental, trustworthy and empathetic personality.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships
• Good problem solving and reasoning ability

Main duties in this role:
• Do regular rounds to assess the residents
• Report any adverse conditions to sister in charge
• Execute general basic nursing care as required to reduce medico-legal risks
• Practice safe control over prescribed medications for the resident
• Check and administer Schedule medications as prescribed under supervision of the Registered Nurse.
• Initiate and carry out wound care as per protocol
• Promote and maintain mobility of residents
• Show empathy and a positive attitude
• Encourage residents’ independence as much as possible
• Supervise carers to ensure good basic nursing care and provide in service to them
• Record all nursing interventions
• Monitor resident’s intake and output
• Monitor bowel habits of residents to prevent and treat constipation or diarrhoea if necessary
• Deal effectively with incontinence
• Report and document accidents and incidents accurately
• Report and document any sign of elder abuse
• Provide spiritual and psychological comfort to the dying resident and their family
• Deal with emergencies in Cottages; and be available for Cottage residents’ weekly clinic.
• All care falls under the framework of the Nursing Act (No 33 of 2005), the Older Persons Act, 2006 and all associated regulations.

Regulations:
All care must take place within the framework of current nursing legislation and regulations. Employees must therefore maintain and update knowledge in this regard.
