About the Role
As assistant risk manager, you are in charge of determining financial, safety and security risks for a company or organisation, and you find ways to reduce those risks through planning.
Responsibilities
Ensure all incidents are logged in the MORSE system using the correct descriptors, and that investigations are completed within established timelines.
Ensure all incidents are reported in accordance with local regulatory requirements, including ACSA and SACAA guidelines.
Prepare and chair monthly Health & Safety Committee meetings to discuss risks and safety performance.
Ensure risk assessments are conducted annually, after incidents, and during any change management processes.
Facilitate all external audits, ensuring that corrective actions are completed and submitted within required timelines.
Attend customer meetings to monitor and address SLA risk actions effectively.
Manage the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) administration process for tracking risk management actions.
Conduct monthly Ground Support Equipment (GSE) audits to assess compliance and operational safety.
Organize and conduct emergency evacuation exercises for all offices to ensure readiness for potential emergencies.
Compile and manage Risk Officers rosters and time attendance, ensuring adequate staffing for risk functions.
Implement risk action plans and monitor their effectiveness across the organization.
Attend ACSA Safety Committee meetings to contribute to discussions on safety and risk management initiatives.
Audit the implementation of Corrective Action Requests (CARs) at the station level to ensure compliance with safety standards.
Conduct weekly after-hour checks to ensure compliance with risk policies and procedures
Requirements
Experience, Qualifications and Key Skills
SAMTRAC qualification is required.
Internal Auditor certification is a requirement.
3-5 years of experience in aviation is advantageous.
Strong understanding of aviation regulations, safety protocols, and risk management practices within the aviation industry.
Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to demonstrate proactiveness and a solutions-oriented approach, with a high degree of self-initiative.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate and engage with people at all levels of the organisation.
Ability to remain focused on goals and objectives while maintaining flexibility.
Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Leadership potential, with the ability to support senior managers in risk management activities and mentor junior team members.
Strong attention to detail and excellent observation skills for identifying hazards and risks.
Proven problem-solving abilities, with the capability to motivate others to implement necessary improvements.
Computer literacy with advanced skills in Office 365 (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and the ability to quickly learn and use online dashboard systems.
A flexible attitude and a collaborative mentality, willing to take on additional duties outside of the standard scope as needed.
