Job Description

Location: Port Shepstone

Job Summary:
A Plumber is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining water supply lines, drainage systems, and associated fixtures and appliances in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. The role requires adherence to building codes, safety standards, and plumbing regulations.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Installation of Plumbing Systems

Install and connect water supply, waste, and ventilation systems.

Fit and test piping systems, valves, fixtures, and appliances (e.g., sinks, toilets, geysers).

Interpret blueprints and building plans to determine layout.

Maintenance and Repairs

Diagnose and repair leaks, blockages, and water pressure issues.

Replace worn or damaged pipes, fixtures, and fittings.

Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance.

Testing and Compliance

Test plumbing systems for leaks and proper operation using gauges and other equipment.

Ensure installations comply with municipal and national plumbing codes (e.g., SANS standards).

Maintain detailed records of repairs, services, and installations.

Emergency Response

Respond to plumbing emergencies such as burst pipes or blocked drains.

Work after hours or on weekends if necessary, especially for urgent repairs.

Customer Service and Communication

Interact with clients in a professional manner, explaining issues and solutions clearly.

Provide cost estimates and timelines when required.

Communicate any delays, risks, or material shortages to supervisors.

Safety and Equipment Use

Follow occupational health and safety procedures at all times.

Use hand and power tools safely (pipe cutters, wrenches, soldering tools, etc.).

Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean, functional condition.

Job Requirements:
Education & Qualifications:

Grade 12 (Matric) preferred.

Trade Test Certificate in Plumbing (Red Seal or equivalent).

Registered with the Plumbing Industry Registration Board (PIRB) (advantageous).

Experience:

2–5 years of experience in plumbing installations and maintenance.

Experience working on construction sites, residential, or commercial buildings.

Skills and Competencies:

Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, codes, and regulations.

Ability to read technical diagrams and blueprints.

Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Physical stamina and ability to work in tight or elevated spaces.

Attention to detail and accuracy in workmanship.

Basic communication and customer service skills.

Additional Requirements:

Willingness to travel to different sites or clients.

Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Salary:
