Job Description

1. Provision of pharmaceutical care by taking responsibility for patients’ medicine-related needs, and being accountable for meeting those needs, which shall include, but not be limited to the following functions:
2. Evaluation of a patient’s medicine-related needs by determining the indication, safety and effectiveness of the therapy
3. Dispensing of any medicine or scheduled substance on the prescription of a person authorised to prescribe medicine
4. To liaise with SAHPRA in terms of regulatory compliance, registration of medicine and final product, and complaints
5. Take corrective measures in respect of deficiencies with regard to inspection reports of the Pharmacy Council or in terms of the Medicines Act.
6. Implement corrective action from SAHPRA and/or Pharmacy Council inspections and/or corporate audits
7. To ensure regulatory compliance with respect to procurement, storage, distribution and correct disposal of all medicinal and medical products
8. Be part of the decision-making process affecting the pharmacy business
9. To oversee the SOP process and approve all written procedures pertaining to the scope of practise as set out in Act 53 of 1974
10. Report in writing any non-compliance with the Pharmacy Act to the management of such pharmacy business and furnish Pharmacy Council with a copy thereof
11. To oversee the implementation of Quality Management Systems
12. Maintain full control over delivering, stocking and labelling medicine and other products and monitor their condition to prevent expiring or deterioration.
13. Signing off and checking of all prescriptions prepared by an assistant or an intern and accepting accountability for the correctness thereof as per GPP 2.7.1.2.1.f
14. Furnishing of information and advice to any person with regard to the use medicine
15. Determining patient compliance with the therapy, and follow-up to ensure that the patient’s medicine-related needs are being met
16. The provision of pharmacist-initiated therapy
17. The compounding, manipulation, preparation or packaging of any medicine or scheduled substance, or the supervision thereof
18. The manufacturing of any medicine or scheduled substance, or supervision thereof
19. The purchasing, acquiring, importing, keeping, possessing, using, releasing, storage, packaging, re-packaging, supplying or selling of any medicine or scheduled substance, or supervision thereof
20. The application for the registration of a medicine in accordance with the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act
21. The acts specially pertaining to the profession of a pharmacist as prescribed above;
22. The formulation of any medicine for the purposes of registration as a medicine;
23. The distribution of any medicine or scheduled substance;
24. The re-packaging of medicines;
25. The initiation and conducting of pharmaceutical research and development; and
26. The promotion of public health.
27. Accurately interpret scripts and act in a professional and responsible manner and within the legal requirements in accordance with the South African Pharmaceutical Council.
28. Capture script details accurately and verify patient’s details on the system.
29. Ensure accurate picking / packing / labelling and checking of medication and be aware of common dosages as well as important drug interactions.
30. Provide accurate instructions to the patients regarding the correct use of medicine supplied.
31. Keep abreast of changes in medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing.
32. Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter and front-shop.
33. Follow up with patients regarding script tracking report as requested by the dispensary manager and follow up appointments.
34. Explain all medical aid costs to patients.
35. Follow through on promises made to customers.
36. Evaluation of disease conditions and referral to in-store health facilities when necessary.
37. Process all paperwork necessary for the accurate submission of claims to medical aids.
38. Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aid.
39. Ensure authorization of chronic, HIV and AIDS and oncology medication.
40. Maintain customer profiles on the system.
41. Merge profiles locally and Vexall should be notified to merge profiles centrally.
42. Take note of any messages on the customer profile and take suitable action.
43. Assist the Dispensary Manager to ensure that all administration functions are carried out correctly and timeously.
44. Report on low - / out of stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager.
45. Facilitate Bi-annual stock takes.
46. Exercise stock, cash and asset control.
47. Assist the Dispensary Manager to ensure that all stock control processes and are adhered to and that all registers are kept up to date in accordance with legislation.
48. Housekeeping must be in accordance to The Local Choice standards.
49. Adhere to The Local Choice Policies and Procedures and Standard Operating Procedures.
50. Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations.
51. Adhere to The Local Choice Uniform and personal appearance policy

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Grade 12 / Matric
• BPharm / equivalent qualification
• Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
• Min 4- 5 years experience in Pharmaceutical
• Min 2-3 years retail pharmacy experience
• Computer literate – MS Office
• POS Experience
• QA Experience
• Responsible Pharmacist Experience
