Job Description
Electrical Design Engineer (Permanent Position)
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, career minded individual, with a strong work ethic, solid professional track record and a commitment to teamwork whom with a B.Eng. / B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering. (Marine industry preferable). The following skills are required which must be demonstrated by submitting examples:
• 5 years’ experience in Design of Electrical systems and control systems & integrated solutions
• 5 years’ experience in Manufacturing / Production of Electrical systems and control systems & integrated solutions
• 5 years’ experience in AutoCAD Electrical (or similar software) system, process & control drafting
• 3 years’ experience in Electrical engineering production, manufacturing, commissioning, and faultfinding.
Key Responsibilities – amongst others and not limited to:
• Design of Electrical systems and control systems & integrated solutions in accordance with requirements of the relevant statutory guidelines and 3rd party codes & standards (IMCA, ABS, DNV, LR, etc.)
• Design of Electrical and related interfaces for products and systems
• Manage sub-contractor/contracted designs and integrate design inputs from them.
• Support Sales in the development of concept designs to facilitate proposals and perform budget costings.
• Produce AutoCAD drawings (concept, philosophy, system, circuits, logic, manufacturing etc.) and detailed ERP BOMS & routes and maintain change control as per ECP process.
• Power assessments, product specification reviews, conformity assessments and design reports/Engineering calculations
• Co-ordinate design inputs from junior engineers and draftsmen (drawings etc.)
• Manage sub-contractor designs and integrate design inputs from them.
• Review and approve drawings and documentation from junior engineers and draftsmen.
• Provide electrical engineering guidance to junior engineers and draftsmen.
• Capture as-builds & redlines as per ECP process (designs, drawings, BOMS, IR’s, FAT’s etc.).
• Component identification and selection throughout design process
• Read and interpret:
o 3rd party codes, standards, and associations such as IMCA, ABS, DNV, LR, IMO, ASME, EN, SABS, ISO etc.
o Local and international directives / standards / regulations / legislative requirement
o Technical drawings, specifications/data sheets, data books, procedures & policies, work standards, test documentation, client technical documentation
• 3rd Party submission of design drawings and documents and resolve technical queries and/or comments throughout the design appraisal and production/manufacturing phases of the project.
• Review, Approve and Produce testing and validation documentation: FAT’s, HAT’s, SAT’s, Inspection Reports, ITP’s (including necessary technical drawings/diagrams) as well as product setup & commissioning when required.
• Review and interrogate client specifications/requirements and formulate technical specifications/descriptions as well as produce purchasing specifications.
• Review, Approve and Produce O&M Manuals
• Onsite testing & faulting during installation & commissioning phases
• Liaise and work closely with Sales, Production, Project, HSE and QA/QC Management teams in execution of duties, local and interbranch.
• Support industrialization of BOM’s, drawings & related documentation
• Software: AutoCAD Electrical, MS Office, MS D365 (ERP), MS Teams, MS Project
• Create Failure Mode, Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
Additional Skills Required:
• Software development, PLC & HMI operation & programming
• Hands-on experience in electrical engineering manufacturing, commissioning, and faultfinding.
• High level of technical competency in the fundamentals of electrical engineering design process
• Hands-on experience in assembly and operation of marine and subsea equipment.
• Must possess a demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic team environment, under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and be goal oriented.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work overtime when required.
• ISO13485 experience would be advantageous.
• Position may require international travel.
