Job Description
Tax Compliance Supervisor, reporting to the Tax Manager and/or Tax Director.
Remuneration:
R30 000 CTC to R45 000 CTC (negotiable)
Short Summary of the purpose of the role:
Assisting with the supervision of the tax department staff. Advise staff on tax compliance-related issues. Assist tax manager with the research of tax information, processing of tax queries, and liaising with SARS. To assist with the management of the flow of work and ensure quality delivery of work outputs of tax staff in relation to audits, income tax returns, provisional tax returns, Tax Ombud complaints, objections, appeals and tax exemption applications. Assist tax manager with the dispute resolution process and responsible for the follow-up of all disputes.
Academic Qualifications Required:
Grade 12 with accounting as a subject
Tax or other relevant qualifications with a decent track record of work experience (5 years)
Experience in a tax environment is essential
Registered Tax Practitioner or eligibility to be registered

Key Duties and Responsibilities – Key Performance Indicators:
· Assist in supervising the tax department staff to ensure effective operations and adherence to deadlines.
· Assist the tax manager and compliance officers with the completion of complex Income Tax Returns for companies, trusts, and individuals.
· Aid the tax manager in the administration of provisional tax and ensure compliance with relevant deadlines.
· Monitor the dispute resolution process, including drafting objections, appeals, and managing complaints with the Tax Ombud.
· Consult and advise clients on basic tax queries, ensuring clear communication and understanding.
· Prepare and review complex tax calculations and returns on behalf of clients.
· Assist with the initial completion of SARS response letters and ensure adherence to deadlines.
· Communicate the refund list and other relevant tax information to the partners.
· Oversee the administration of SARS-related documentation, including assessments and notifications.
· Support compliance officers with the completion of returns and tax administration.
· Manage GreatSoft-related issues concerning tax processes.
· Execute monthly provisional tax runs and handle SARS queries related to provisional tax.
· Ensure timely delivery of documents, returns, and payments to SARS at month-end.
· Follow up on payments requested from clients to ensure timely compliance.
· Update and monitor lists related to refunds, payments, disputes, and tax returns, distributing updates to partners.
· Resolve disputes regarding assessments and accounts from SARS related to Income Tax.
· Assist with Tax Exemption applications and related preparation.
· Act as the liaison with SARS for complex tax queries and visits for taxpayer particulars updates.
· Schedule and facilitate SARS appointments for directors and ensure compliance matters are logged and monitored.
· Train and supervise SAIT learners, providing them with relevant training and guidance.
· Conduct monthly meetings with the tax manager to report on the status of all tax-related matters.
· Ensure team members meet with respective directors regarding unsubmitted lists.
· Adhere to the firm’s System of Quality Management (SOQM) and policies.
· Comply with the firm’s Employee Code of Conduct, including adherence to SAICA, IRBA, and IESBA Codes of Conduct.
· Manage registrations and re-registrations for Income tax, VAT, PAYE, Customs, NPOs, PBOs, and other tax types.
· Prepare tax computations for individuals and trusts, and calculate and submit provisional, income, and dividend tax returns.
· Apply for tax clearance certificates and various tax directives.
· Attend to mandatory SARS appointments and prepare supporting documents for compliance.
· Handle SARS correspondence, queries, and verifications as required.
Level of Independence:
Work independently under the supervision of tax manager
Support the tax manager with all administrative processes and work matters as set out above
