Job Description
This role will ensure that all machinery falls into a maintenance program covering all equipment, plant & tools used. In addition to production equipment maintenance, maintenance mechanics are also responsible for helping keep their facility in good operating condition by performing preventive maintenance, machine tests, troubleshooting, resolving technical issues, and performing emergency repairs.
Key Job responsibilities
• Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service on machines.
• Maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule for inspecting, servicing, and testing machinery
• Diagnosing and repairing machine failures.
• Thoroughly cleans machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling as necessary.
• Oils and lubricates moving parts on machines to ensure effective performance.
• Records and reports damaged, worn, or broken parts or any leaks on Pipelines, Take-off points, Packaging lines, Water supply lines, or any Vessels that use either Steam or element heating
• Using power tools and different hand tools to complete assigned maintenance tasks, minor welding, drilling holes is also required.
• Orders materials from Procurement and installs replacement parts for machines.
• Identifies the causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines.
• Repairs broken machines quickly and efficiently.
• Prepares reports documenting work performed.
• Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
• Coordinates with managers to schedule regular maintenance on machines.
• Collaborates with the Site Manager/ Factory Operations Manager regarding new products being added and modifications that will be required.
• Statuary scheduled requirements for Boiler, compressor, loadcells, scales, fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, forklift services and generator services to ensure this is done with certification.
• Makes necessary modifications and implements tests runs; confers with the Site Manager /Factory Operations Manager regarding test results and makes additional alterations to machinery as required.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Logging performed maintenance work through either paper documentation (email) or via company programs
• Ensures that Statuary testing is done to eg Boiler, Cooling Towers, Compressors, Air Handling Units
• In the event where an urgent breakdown repair is required, you will need to source the part and on approval of the item by management, it can then be collected by yourself or arrangement can be made for urgent collection. No cellphones are to be used in the production area at any time unless authorized by Factory Operations Manager.
• To ensure general housekeeping standards are maintained at all times, all empty containers or waste is removed from the production area.
• To ensure that Health and Safety rules and regulations are adhered to at all times, and that all matters relating to this are dealt with using the resources within the company, in line with the Company’s Health and Safety policy.
• To have an active role in the Company’s continuous improvement plan to achieve plans for future growth within the Company.
• All employees are responsible for ensuring company resources are used in an effective and responsible manner to ensure best operating costs.
• Consistently adhere to Company policies and procedures.
• Perform all tasks to a high standard to meet Standard Operating Procedures and Codes of Conduct.
• To perform to the best of his/ her ability all duties and functions reasonably assigned to him/ her by or on behalf of the company in connection with its business.
• To obey the orders, instructions and directions of the company or any other person on their behalf.
• To comply with all health and safety requirements of the premises.
• To disclose to the company all acts and omissions which in the past may have constituted or at time may constitute a breach by the Employee or any other Employee of his/ her obligations to the company
• In the cases of spillages, these are to be brought to the Site Manager attention immediately.
• Annual Shutdown Maintenance Procedure and responsibilities to be carried out before the annual company closure period.
• The Company inventory Tool list needs to be updated on a regular basis with report back to Management on any discrepancies or issues.
• Company equipment inventory needs to be updated each time equipment either leaves the site (i.e when a machine needs to be sent to another branch) or when new equipment is installed or new electric motors with certification is installed.
The company offers a CTC package ranging up to a monthly CTC of R20 000 per month.
