Job Description

Job Title: Cost Estimator
Location: Hilton, KwaZulu-Natal
Job Type: Full-time, Office-based

About Us:
Our client is a well-established company in the building and development space, located in Hilton. With a strong track record and multiple significant projects in the pipeline, they are looking for a Cost Estimator to join their dynamic team.

Position Overview:
As a Cost Estimator, you will play a key role in analyzing project data, preparing cost estimates, and ensuring profitability tracking throughout the lifecycle of their projects. Your main focus will be to bridge communication between the project teams and the company’s bookkeeper to ensure smooth financial operations. The role will require you to work closely with project managers, vendors, and contractors, ensuring accurate cost estimations and effective cost management throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities:
-Data Analysis: Collect and analyze data to estimate the time, money, resources, and labour required for projects.
-Cost Estimation: Prepare cost estimates for materials, labour, equipment, and other project-related expenses.
-Project Planning: Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate cost estimates and work on strategies to minimize overall costs.
-Cost Reporting: Prepare and present cost reports to management for decision-making and future planning.
-Vendor & Contractor Management: Maintain relationships with vendors and contractors, manage bids, and analyze bid data to ensure cost-effective options.
-Communication: Present cost estimates to clients and explain contributing factors, ensuring transparency and alignment with expectations.
-Documentation: Keep project cost documentation organized and easily accessible for reference.

Key Skills & Qualifications:
-Relevant tertiary qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field are advantageous.
-Experience in cost estimation and project budgeting within the building and development space.
-Strong understanding of cost management, project planning, and vendor/contractor coordination.
-Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and provide actionable insights.
-Effective communication skills, able to liaise with clients, vendors, and project teams.
-Attention to detail, strong organizational abilities, and proactive problem-solving skills.
-Ability to travel to sites when necessary (not extensively), mainly office-based.
